Building our Green Recovery

I support efforts to rewild green spaces and get wild flowers on verges, vitally increasing our biodiversity and helping to absorb airborne pollution and improve local air quality. The Liberal Democrats working alongside Green Party members were key voices in Mid Devon’s plans to be carbon neutral by 2030, and we will keep on putting forward improvements.

We want to expand projects to plant even more trees, and allow community groups to take over unused green spaces to create wildlife habitats. We want to invest in more charging points across Mid Devon for electric vehicles to make our communities ready for the future, putting the infrastructure where we need it to encourage greater use.

One of our strengths is local engagement – unlike other groups, your Tiverton Liberal Democrat team are out asking you for your ideas and suggestions all year round and not just when there is an election. Your Green Recovery ideas have been instrumental in our campaigning (and I have used one of them – creating green flat roofs – on my own home). Thank you for your help!

As we head out of the pandemic restrictions and look towards recovery we have a once in a generation chance to build back greener. Being ‘green’ is not all about planting trees and using solar panels – it is about placing our living environment front and centre in every decision we make. It shouldn’t just be about stemming the damage we cause through reducing resource consumption, it should be about improving our green spaces for all of us. We mustn’t waste this opportunity.

A vote for me this Thursday May 6th will ensure you have one more voice speaking up for our environment on your local councils.
